Pair are convicted of Mongan murder

There were emontional outbursts in court yesterday as two men were unanimously convicted of the murder of John Mogan who was hacked to death in front of his pregnant wife and daughter. As the foreman of the Belfast Crown Court jury announced the guilty vedicts on Londonderry men 38-year-old Christopher Stokes and Edward Stokes, 34, the Mongan family leapt into the air, clapping and cheering in jubilation. With around two dozen uniformed police officers and court staff separating them from Stokes family in the packed public gallery of court 12, trial judge Mr Justice Treacy repeatedly asked them to “keep quiet” until the proceedings had been completed. Both men were also unanimously convicted of causing criminal damage to Mr Mongan’s Mitsubishi Shogun jeep which was parked outside his Fallswater Street home.
